June 2008
This past weekend Shayla competed in the Olympic
Trials in Philadelphia, PA. Even though she didn't perform her
routines perfectly, she felt great to finally get out there and
compete! On the first day of competition she started off on the
uneven bars and scored a 15.400! She moved on to the balance
beam next which she made a few costly wobbles, but still scored a
solid 14.800. Shayla then performed a yurchenko 1/2 vault which
she almost stuck but had a small step to the side (14.600).
Shayla and her coaches decided not to compete on floor exercise and to
wait to perform all four events at the selection camp in a few weeks.
During finals, Shayla started off on vault and improved her scored by
a tenth (14.700). Moving onto the uneven bars, Shayla had a
great routine going until she completely missed the bar to catch her
Hindorff (14.200). Knowing that beam was her last event to prove
herself here, at the Olympic Trials, she was determined to finish
strong! She hit a great routine and really improved her score
from day one and scored a 15.400. Since Shayla proved to the US
Selection Committee that she is healing, she has been invited to the
US Olympic Team Selection Camp which takes place in about three weeks
(July 16-20)! Congratulations, Shayla!
Videos and
photos from the 2008 Olympic Trials will be added by this weekend, as
well as Shayla's Blog.
While
Shayla has been busy training and preparing herself for the Olympic
Trials and the Selection Camp, Bead Bee has put together charm
bracelets to help raise money for the Worley Family to get to Beijing.
Also,
On July 12 the Kissimmee
Bay Golf and Country Club will be hosting a Luncheon and
Golf Tournament to also help raising money for the Worley Family
Olympic Fund.
The Worley's would also
like to let everyone know that all money raised for their family to
travel to Beijing will be donated to a USA Teammate if Shayla does not
get to go.
